Built in the 13th century during the height of the Middle Ages, the Château de Champ-Renard became a winery in 1765 under the leadership of its owner at the time, the Marquis d’Espinay-de-Laye, who invited the future U.S. President Thomas Jefferson—then serving as ambassador—to visit. After several years of inactivity, the château resumed wine production in 2014 when it was purchased by a couple of entrepreneurs from Lyon, Fabienne Vilain and Denis Garnier, who restructured the vineyard and carried out extensive renovations to accommodate events and tourists visiting the region.
The various renovations carried out over the centuries have preserved Champ-Renard’s charm and historic character. Even today, visitors can admire the medieval tower overlooking the largest reception hall, as well as the mullioned and pointed-arch windows—a legacy of the 19th-century renovation that lends the property a romantic atmosphere.
Our rental apartments (the Appartement du Cocher and the Appartement du Paradis) are located on the first floor of the château and offer breathtaking views of the vineyards just outside the castle walls. L’Appartement du Paradis also features a small paved courtyard at garden level with a table and chairs for breakfast or a coffee break outdoors.

Our apartments are available for reservations starting at one night and feature a bedroom(s), a bathroom, and a large living room that opens onto a fully equipped kitchen.
The Appartement du Paradis is ideal for a couple (with or without children), featuring a double bedroom and a large sofa bed in the living room, while the Appartement du Cocher can accommodate up to 8 people with its 3 double bedrooms and a two-person sofa bed.
Bright and cozy with their stone walls, exposed beams, and hardwood floors, our charming vacation rentals in the Rhône region have been renovated and decorated in an elegant and authentic “country chic” style.
When designing the space, we focused on furniture and accessories sourced from flea markets and repurposed with the help of talented local decorators and artisans, such as upholsterers and decorators Marie-Madeleine Coquard in Alix and Florence Guyot in Villefranche-sur-Saône, as well as companies like Rubelli, Houles (fabric blinds), and Gris Patine (renovation of nightstands and chairs).
Just as we prioritize sustainability in the production of our eco-friendly and vegan wines, as well as in the upkeep of the estate, its gardens, and its vegetable garden, we wanted to take a local and sustainable approach to our apartments in order to showcase the region’s talent and furniture with authentic character.
