Champ-Renard, a former fortified house that has been remodeled many times, is both a luxurious château and a symbol of the region’s rich heritage. Built in the 13th century, it was converted into a wine estate in 1750 and has had various owners over the centuries. In 2014, Fabienne Vilain and Denis Garnier fell in love with the property and set out to restore it to its former glory. At that time, the estate had been neglected for several years, and the château had no heating.
As the flagship of the Châteaux en Beaujolais association, the estate is now committed to helping showcase the region’s historical past and its current economic and tourism potential. To this end, the estate’s owners offer a combination of guided tours, wine tastings, accommodations in charming guesthouses, and event planning services.
Long closed to the public, our luxury château now offers a wide range of activities. Among them is a guided tour of the cellar and vineyards, accompanied—as it should be!—by a tasting of the finest Beaujolais wines.
In partnership with select culinary professionals, such as chocolatier Henri Desmoulins and the Dufour cheese shop in Blacé, Champ-Renard organizes workshops to explore food-and-wine pairings. The tasting can also be paired with a romantic picnic in the château’s grounds.
The Appartement du Paradis and the Appartement du Cocher, both tastefully furnished, offer you the chance to stay overnight at the château. Each features charming bedrooms, a bathroom, and a living area. The “Appartement du Paradis” opens onto a small paved courtyard at garden level, furnished with a table and chairs so you can enjoy your breakfast or a coffee break in complete tranquility.
With a capacity of 4 and 8 people, respectively, they are ideal for organizing a family weekend, a seminar in the countryside, or a team-building event centered on wine and cultural heritage.
